Experiment 12 apes the minimalist platformer style of the peculiarly popular Pixel Man and tries mostly unsuccessfully to inject the atmosphere of Portal into it. It doesn’t stay quite as minimal, giving the blocks a hint of depth and adding more gameplay elements than simply jumping, which serves to make it actually fun to play.

I’ll happily admit that when it comes to Earthshaker, it’d take a cataclysmic event to make me give it a bad review. Thing is, it may be a new game to the 360 but it’s a game that I’ve owned and enjoyed for the best part of 20 years now (oh god, I’m old) and [...]

People like to parade Kodu about as a wonderful introduction to programming, but to me that seems about as accurate as a magnetic alphabet set being called a wonderful introduction to literature. Sure, it’ll show you a couple of concepts necessary to proceed, but beyond that it’s just a toy. So, when Venatio Creo popped [...]

I’ve said before that I’m not really one for physics gubbins. Once you’ve played about with Pontifex for a while, do you really need more? So, I wasn’t particularly excited to give Gerbil Physics a try-out.
Imagine my surprise when it kept me entertained from start to finish. And not merely entertained, but actively engaged. I [...]

Well, blimey. You see, we at xnPlay don’t just sit on our arses all day long criticising games – oh no, sir. Sometimes we make games for others to criticise too*. Hence, no review here beyond xAD’s one line write up in the round up. Obviously, before I go any further I’m going to recommend [...]

Isn’t this a free in-browser Flash game? Well, yes and no. This version of Fishing Girl is not just a port; it plays rather differently from the original Flash game. So, no more about the Flash version, this is the XBLIG version of Fishing Girl.
Fishing Girl is a well-executed, charming and simple game. You cast [...]

Have you ever had an epiphany after reading a fortune cookie? An advertising slogan? Any tiny fluff of throwaway media processed and homogenized for the masses? Not likely? No.
Then, imagine my surprise when I felt I needed to re-think Dark.

The premise of the game is pretty simple, each day you buy some fish at the store, and then click ‘next day’ where you’ll get a summary of what fishes mated, died or were eaten by other fishes. The aim is to start off with some cheap, basic guppies and gradually move up the food [...]

Ever felt yourself wanting to play Rock Paper Scissors? What about playing it without having to see the other player’s face? What about playing a computer at it? What about playing a computer at it whilst looking at poorly drawn graphics which don’t even clearly show what choice your opponent has made? If you answered [...]

Anyone who started gaming with the SNES or later can just turn away and go about your business right now. This is not the game for you, and you are unlikely to understand how it could hold any appeal. For those who spent years gaming on 8-bit home computers, though, this nouveau retro game could [...]
