I’ve read that at any given time there are in the neighborhood of 75 Indie Games waiting to pass peer review. The implications of that never really occurred to me until this week.
Wow, that’s a lot of games.

A twin stick shooter? On XBLIG? Whatever next?
Shocking stuff abounds, I’m sure. However, whilst JoyJoy isn’t quite the second coming of arena shooters on XBLIG, it’s a pretty solid affair with some quite progressive design and if there’s one thing I’m quite the fan of it’s progressive design in shooters. Oh yes.
It also has pretty colours. I like pretty colours. Hey, I make games with pretty colours.

Our good friends over at Indiegames.com have just bunged up a lovely little article with some commentary on the service and a nice “Starter for 10″ of titles on the XBLIG service for folks to check out.
“As is often true in the independent games scene, the biggest problem with Xbox Live Indie Games for Xbox 360 is the obvious one. There’s simply too many games for one or even multiple individuals to check out — and not enough bandwidth for the press to give them detailed attention, even though there are some gems out there. “
Some fantastic choices from Simon and well worth a read, especially if you’re new to the service and wondering where to start.
Go read it up.

I dunno, kids today. You let them out of your sight for 30 seconds and they come back with all sorts of icky diseases. No wait, that was just me aged 14 wasn’t it? Hang on, no it was all just a massive hallucination and me trying to sound more sexually active than I was at that age. Never mind, eh?

Well, yeah, it’s up late. I lost my Internet connection for a good portion of the day with a dozen or so games left to look at. No. Because you can’t play them offline. Look, I don’t think anyone ever reads the article before Monday, anyhow. What? Yeah, well, I’ll take that into consideration after I start getting paid for this.

Ah, the 90′s. The decade of New Labour, Britpop and 3d gaming becoming the norm. And lots of inebriation. Or perhaps the latter was just me.
It was also the time of re imagining early 80′s arcade games in 3d. Time generally hasn’t been kind to most of them. Whilst Tempest 2000 may have now cemented its place in gaming history as a stone cold classic, we mustn’t forget the rest of the “Now in glorious 3d” titles that emerged throughout the decade and often how their ambition often outstripped their implementation. Hasbro Interactive, especially, produced a ruck of often ill considered translations of classic games into the 3rd dimension. With the honourable exception of the excellent Pong:The Next Level they were often just not very good.
