Rum wench! Another round of one-sentence looks at last week’s Indie Games releases!

Aimeroids
Just put all the ship controls on separate buttons while you’re at it – at least then it would be more authentic. 80 Points.

Dark Skies: Messier
Play “you’re getting warmer” with invisible stellar bodies. 240 Points.

Elfland Reloaded Vol. 1
Like somebody beat Jill of the Jungle with a twee stick. 240 Points.

KAITEN PATISSIER
Nifty stage-rotating puzzle platformer. 80 Points.

SLAM: Indie Edition
Lite versions, always a dubious form of promotion – why buy the cow when you can get 50% of the cow for 33% of the price? 80 Points.

WhipCrack
More whip crack, less yak-yak, please. 240 Points.
A bit of a slow week for new releases, perhaps to make up for the insane number of releases last week. There was one other:
but it was pulled from the service so quickly that I never got a chance to try it.

Ninja Bros was the best of the lot IMO. Quite a neat platform puzzler with good level design which is often the biggest let down in these games. I’ve no idea why it was pulled but hopefully it will be back soon
It got pulled because it was supposed to fail review but for some reason didn’t. From what I can tell the reason it was pulled is because it used the word “Achievement” which is disallowed when referring to awards/trophies in indie games, because Achievement has a very specific usage in XBox games.
It’s much better to get a game rejected during review than it is to have the game release, then get pulled by MS afterwords, because when you get pulled, once your game gets BACK on the market it may no longer be a “new release”, which is when developers get the vast majority of their downloads.
Interesting. I did manage to pull it down and review it (see my website *hint*hint* – http://www.caffeinated.org.uk/xbig/review.html?reviewee=ninjabros): it’s a fairly neat little pixel-art puzzler.
Here’s to hoping it gets back in a sensible timeframe – it’ll be a shame if it doesn’t get any decent exposure.
It’s already back in Peer Review so it should be on the Marketplace later this week hopefully.
NINJA BROS. is back for Week 48!
Ah, I remember losing so much time to Elfland as a kid. (The old DOS version.) Granted, I sucked at it and didn’t really understand what it was about, being way too young. I never realized that the guys behind Galax-e-mail were the same guys!
Ah, that explains the ‘Reloaded’, then.
I’d never heard of this one before.
