The principle behind Track Architect is pretty simple: drive your car from the start point to the goal, avoiding all the obstacles, and trying not to flip over. If you’ve played Elasto Mania or Trials HD, you’ll get the gist of it. You can accelerate, decelerate and balance your car using the analog stick.
As far as gameplay goes, the car can be a little fiddly to control at times, particularly as accelerating too much causes the wheels to go off-axis and bounce you off the track. It’ll take a few minutes to get used to controlling your car, but once you get the hang of it, the game’s pretty playable.
Graphics are pretty basic developer art, but they get the job done. Sound effects are pretty minimal, but at least they’re not obtrusive. It’s a pretty solid effort for an 80-point title, but a little extra spit ‘n’ polish would have been appreciated.
As the name implies, there’s also an included Track Editor, which allows you to sculpt tracks and put objects on them. There are only two sizes of ground though. It’d have been nice to change the size of the blocks and have a bit more control over my level. You can also add balls, boxes and planks to your level to add some gratuitous rigid body dynamics, or to function as an element of a puzzle (such as knocking away an obstruction to get to the goal).
Although Track Architect doesn’t really do anything particularly exciting, it’s a decent title for 80 Points , and worth a look if you enjoy games of it’s ilk.
Track Architect was developed by Victor Ortega and is available for 80 Points.
