Oh Geometry Wars, what hath thou brought upon this world?
Fittest is, surprisingly, a dual analog shooter in the vein of Geometry Wars. You get to move your little yellow ship around and shoot at little red ships, some of which fire back. You also get missiles and a couple of alternate weapons to use.
Graphically, the game is pretty basic with coloured shapes making up the in game objects, and overly detailed smoke explosions which look suspiciously like the one that comes with the XNA development kit. The style of the explosions doesn’t fit the style of the game at all.
Not only is the game pretty dull and uninspired, but I also managed to break it within the first 2 minutes of gameplay. Occasionally, a ring appears on the field, and if you collect it, text comes up telling you to wait for 5 seconds. If you do so, enemies swarm on top of you but don’t kill you, and you unlock some sort of powerup. When I tried this, the enemies swarmed around me and trapped me in, but my bullets spawned too far away to kill them, so my ship was paralysed by a non-lethal immortal enemy. Fun.
Fittest was developed by Blue Door Productions and is 400 (!) Points.
