Having enjoyed the previous 2 Halfbrick releases, it’s nice to see a third coming our way. This time we’re leaving behind time travel and orbits and heading into the realms of racing. Billed as “their best XNA game yet” it’ll be interesting to see how the third one fares. Watch the skies…

I have to admit that while I’ve liked the ideas of the previous Halfbrick games they weren’t for me as they felt too much like hard work. This however looks like it could be great fun.
Mind, while I appreciate them doing something different with the graphics, that’s one seriously ugly game. And always drawing one player and their huge exhaust trail on top of another player hardly seems fair.
Also the handling and track designs looks exactly what I want from this sort of game, but please make player on player collisions at least an option.
I’m looking forward to this one
I saw this a week ago, and I was both excited and sad. Sad because I had an idea like this for an easy to control Rally game, that basically drove you in the direction of where you pointed your analog stick (as compared to the controls of Little Racers or Micro Machines). Well, I’m assuming that how this is going to control.
But I’m excited because I don’t have the programming prowess to make such a game so it’s good to see that sort of idea finally realized.
I have to agree the visuals don’t strike my fancy. And my fancy isn’t that big of a target.
Looking at the way each craft has 2 engines and they switch on and off while cornering, I’ve a feeling it might have separate thrust control for each engine using either both sticks or the triggers.
I’ve just implemented the easier control method you mention in one mode of my Asteroids game (Echoes+). It’s far more intuitive and, once you adjust to it, surprisingly satisfying dodging between obstacles.
According to the video’s description on YouTube, that control method is indeed the case – specifically using the two triggers.
I was just doing a random search for indie games on YouTube and saw the trailer for this, thinking that it might be something that Bob is interested in.
You guys sure are quick!
“You guys sure are quick!”
When I’m as fast as you, I’ll take that compliment
faster than me when it comes down to xbox indie games, definitely.
Hmmm….I was never able to get on with the GBA F-Zero or Mario Karts because of the ‘slideyness’ around corners like that. The top-down perspective would be a big help to that, but I dunno if it’ll be my bag at all.
I liked the other Halfbrick games so I’m interested in checking this out even though I’m not a racing fan generally.
