And so, the fourth title to be reviewed that begins with ‘Battle’ is Battle Ball. Although it’s less of a battle with the ball, but more of a battle with yourself at how long you can continue playing this dull pong clone without your brain liquifying and slowly dribbling out your nose.
Battle Ball is the most featureless, economy version of the game I’ve seen. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the EasyJet of Pong clones here.
Battle Ball’s twist on the pong formula is that by pressing A, you shoot at the other player, and if you hit them, they slow down for a brief period of time. That’s it. The entire extent of the innovation ends there. The game features the ability to play against a variable difficulty AI or another player, and with different themes. A standard ‘pong’ style, an Air Hockey style, Space, or a football theme. The football theme is pictured in the screenshot above, in all it’s Paint.NET glory. Except if you’re playing the trial version, it doesn’t look like that. Oh no, because you see that lovely green background? You have to pay extra for that, because backgrounds are only available in the full version.
This is not the greatest game in the world, it’s just a tribute.
Battle Ball was developed by Jhample, and is 200 Points.
This title was 200 Points at the time of writing this review but has since been reduced to 80 Points.

Oh man that’s genius. I’m now seriously thinking of leaving all graphics out of my trial version
Genius! Do it, Fog
*just don’t blame me when no-one buys it…
This is what creates a bad rep for the service. I don’t hate the effort (in fact, it’s usually recommended to start learning via a pong clone), but this is not a game that needs to be released, ever. People get insulted when there is a prce tag on what is a essentially someone practicing/learning.
Commercial developers do it all the time(Timesplitters for example) – and charge a lot more for these types of projects.
At least they TRY to make their learning projects worth it though.
Eh? Timesplitters was Free Radical, mostly ex-Rare staff. Hardly a learning project.
