This service really needs a better and more strict submission method. I’m not saying “crappy” games shouldn’t be pubilshed, I’m saying things like that shouldn’t.

    Fuck you R3dDr4g0n…

Unfortunately, Microsoft has stated that we cannot reject something just because it’s a reskinned Starter Kit. As long as something works, even if it’s complete crap quality-wise, it cannot be rejected. There are some of us that won’t approve submissions like this, but there are enough people that will approve anything that stuff like this will inevitably get through.

I don’t mind when people shoot themselves in the foot. But stop shooting everyone else’s feet!! ARG.

That’s the issue here. If he’s going to sod off and develop for a another platform then just do it and stop trying to fuck it up for all the other developers.

I like having all these weird games and starter kits submitted out of spite. It gives the community games channel how do you say, the human touch.

        1. Pandapadawan

I’d say we should have an XNA Racer for every color of the rainbow.

          1. Oddbob

            I can’t wait for Skybluepink Racer :D

          2. Pandapadawan

I can’t wait for the Natal version where you can change colors on the fly. :D

          3. oddbob

Make rainbow shapes to change colours! Shake a leg to add shaders.

It’s the future, I tells thee.

Maybe it’s a form of retro-active Karma that this guy’s Petank Party game didn’t sell?

If I had that guy’s programming ability I’d be a rich guy right now. It’s a shame that someone decides to waste their talent in this manner.

I think his work is an ingenious parody of the title of “And Yet it Moves”, adequately he should call his project “And Yet it Sells”. After this AND his rumble program he’ll soon control the top 10 using only programs that people “in the know” hate!

    1. Eclipse

so the rumble massage clone is from him too? good to know…

This service could be potentially a very good platform for us all indie developers, a sort of more free answer to the XBLA one, but it’s crushed to the flood quality and sales wise by some of the developers themselves!

I really think we should start a petition or something to have a barely minimum of quality rules and raise a bit the bar for submissions.
I’m really not saying “crappy” games shouldn’t be published, or we’ll lose the sense of freedom the service offers, but they need to be original stuff, changing textures to a starter kit making it also a lot uglier than the starter kit itself damage us all, the service itself and the gamers, as a lot of developers will rush to develop a broken or stupid game in the sea of crappy products instead to focus on more polished ones.

User ratings are due soon. They’ll help things along the way, but it’s still an uphill struggle for devs right now (and I’m not talking financially as that’s not really the aim of the CG, I’m more referring to getting noticed in the first place).

        1. Eclipse

yes, i know that… that’s also partially fault of how the dashboard is designed too, the CG service has too many entry and who ever bother to browse the games by letter?

(Oh also, i LOVED both the two synso, are you working on an xbox version?)

          1. 9572AD

Me. I only ever browse by letter if I’m browsing. I find the categories to be useless.
            But I know I’m odd.

          2. oddbob

There is a 360 version, yup, my input has been minimal in the extreme. It’s the work of the ever excellent Andy Noble :)

Dunno what’s happening with it yet though, not my call.

        2. Stegersaurus

you can get noticed if you have a “hook”… to a degree. One issue is that the long-tail approach is not good, because although there is a “browse” to find any game, it’s not REALLY used in general, because it’s so bare-bone.

        3. Jim Perry

User Ratings may not help immediately. It depends on how MS implements it.

Blueprint Racer 4D creator, ECHS BACHS, is complaining about this now…

    http://forums.xna.com/forums/t/32623.aspx

…so perhaps it wasn’t a complete waste of time after all. :D

    1. Eclipse

so is he complaining because he was the *first* asshole to sell a starterkit instead of making a game and he thinks he retain some sort of copyright on the idea? hilarious but sad at the same time…

  6. Oddbob

    Now *that’s* comedy.

I was thinking about getting Petank Party since it dropped to 400 points, but then this [2060 Cyber Racer] happened…I was fine with A Perfect Massage. At least he put some polish into the product, unlike the other rumble massage programs.
