With apologies for not throwing this up all in one hit earlier due to my net connection deciding to go a bit wobbly, we’ve got lots of media from Nathan Fouts of Mommy’s Best Games for you to take a gander over. It’s called Grapple Buggy and has a buggy that does grappling in it. Looks intriguing and somewhat sausage obsessed…
Screenshots, blurb, artwork and teaser trailer after the jump.
“Take control of the prototype Grapple Buggy piloted by Nova Commander Javeya, and her alien co-pilot Drozo to explore the newly discovered VALD-END 317. The distant planet seems to house massive amounts of Tetravaldisae, known to its harvesters as ‘Vald’. Used to create fuel for faster-than-light travel, Vald is the single most valuable commodity in the known universe.
The New Homeworld Armada and the Drozo Empire have formed a strained alliance to confirm these portentous readings sending the Grapple Buggy and its team into action for the first time.
Can the Drozo Empire be trusted? Has Javeya’s government thrust her into a compromised situation? Will VALD-END thwart both species schemes?
Swing into action with Grapple Buggy!
Features:
Sumptuous blend of buggy-driving craziness and grapple swinging glee!
Upgrade your buggy with new wheels, jumping abilities, and devastating new grapple arms!
Fight or befriend—explore VALD-END to encounter both terrifying xeno-fauna and sentient aliens!
Features dynamic decision branching, and multiple, story-driven endings!
From developer Mommy’s Best Games creator of the award-winning Community Game Weapon of Choice.”

Looks really promising (the grapple looks especially fun). Weapon of Choice was a good game so this’ll probably be a day one purchase from me.
I hope they make some good money this time, otherwise they’ll probably just give up
It’s not that they didn’t make much money the last time, it’s that they spent too much money making a game for an un-tested market.
/facepalm
Coming soon? Holiday is like half a year away.
Anyway, I’m not hyped. The engine is obviously the same as in Weapon of Choice, the levels feel the same, graphics are the same and a car with grappling hook is what I consider flawed game design. Either the game works as a driving game (where it would be pretty similar to Exhaust), then you don’t need grappling hooks. Or it’s basically a swinging game like Carneyvale, then you don’t need the driving parts.
^^^Doesn’t make sense. You can be innovative with multiple gameplay elements and have a good game without confining yourself to strict genres. It’s not about “need”. Hell, if Exhaust had grapple hooks maybe you could keep the car from flipping over ;-p
I dunno, I only see passing similarities to WoC. It doesn’t look like a reskin to me.
Same art style, obviously, but aside from that…
Interesting – sounds (and looks) like a spiritual sequel to WoC, except with vehicles and more of a focus on one type of spcial movement/attack (grappling hook) over the myriad available in WoC, which should help focus the game a lot. This just got a spot on my list of “games to keep an eye on.”
This looks really interesting – I noticed the Metroid-style map in the upper left corner, so I’m hoping this is more of an adventure/action type game. I give them points for originality, but am confused why they didn’t just go for a metroid-type shooter (or maybe even an action/rpg such as symphony of the night). With having a fan base already established, and since this is their full time job, I’d had figured they would go with a formula that was a bit closer to a slam-dunk. Regardless, I wish them the best in their development effors. I own WoC and will most likely pick this one up too! Bonus points for continuing to take risks!
Looks pretty slick to me. And props to him for sticking with the platform. Glad he’s making another one. I agree the art style (or more specifically, the enemies/landscapes) is a bit too similar to WoC, but hey – that’s what he likes – crazy alien sh*t.
It’s obviously quite a unique engine so I don’t think it matters that it was reused for another game. The animation and physics still captured me. I will definitely be checking it out as soon as it’s released.
