The oddly punctuated Tanks.V.S from developer benNewbury is a classic arcade game eerily similar to another game where you control a square tank and try and shoot down other square tanks through a variety of seemingly randomly generatedly basicly levelsly (okay I’ll stop now), and that’s about all there is to it.
I could go on for quite awhile listing all of this title’s flaws – like it’s fugly (not just fugly, fuggin FUGLY), it’s incredibly slow paced, spawn raping is rife, it’s got a slightly tilted top down viewpoint which makes it frustratingly difficult to navigate and see where you are getting shot at from in the tight sections, there is absolutely no presentation to speak of – not even a tune, the sound effects are terrible…but I won’t.
Instead I’ll say that despite its many flaws, strike me down if it isn’t a bit of basic classic easygoing fun.
In the trial you have a variety of game types: straight deathmatch, team deathmatch, Coin Collect which believe it or not is a game where you not only have to shoot each other but collect randomly placed coins on the level to score and Assassinate which is basically like a game of tag but with tanks and bullets where one tank is “it” and when you shoot that tank then you are “it”.
You can also bounce your bullets off walls and it will go about bouncing all over the place until it either hits something or times out. This means that you can angle your shots so they bounce off a wall or three and nail a completely unsuspecting opponent & can lead to scenarios where multiple bullets are bouncing about all over the place which adds a touch of craziness to the more subdued style of the game as a whole, which is a welcome addition.
For 200 points there are a lot of better games to be had on CGs but if you are after a chilled out classic deathmatch game (of which there are very few) to play with a few equally chilled out buddies then think about giving Tanks.V.S a go would ya?

Does not sound like my kind of game. Thanks for the review.
You would have to try really hard to screw up the basic formula of a Tank / Combat style game.
Like all the other versions though they really only come into their own in multiplayer with a few friends and are fairly pointless for the lone gamer even with decent AI opponents.
Hasbro managed it
Hahaha too true Oddbob!
